Questions & Answers about Я буду искать новую работу.
Why do we use two verbs, буду and искать, to talk about the future here?
This is the compound future tense, which shows an ongoing or continuous action in the future. You conjugate the helper verb быть (to be) — here it becomes буду to match Я (I) — and then just add the dictionary form (infinitive) of the main verb, искать (to look for).
Could I use a perfective verb instead of искать with буду?
No, the helper verb forms of быть (like буду, будешь) are only ever used with imperfective verbs! Because looking for a job is a process rather than a single instant result, it perfectly matches the imperfective form искать.
Why is the phrase новую работу instead of its dictionary form, новая работа?
It is in the Accusative case because it is the direct object — the thing receiving the action of being looked for. For feminine words, the noun ending changes from -а to -у (работу), and the adjective ending changes from -ая to -ую (новую).
In English we say 'looking FOR a job'. Why is there no word for 'for' in the Russian sentence?
The Russian verb искать already means 'to look for' or 'to seek'. It takes a direct object right after it without needing any extra prepositions to translate the English word 'for'.
