Questions & Answers about După părerea mea, filmul e prea lung.

Wait, doesn't după mean "after"? Why is it used here?

While după commonly means "after" (as in time) or "behind" (as in location), it is also used to mean "according to." The phrase după părerea mea is a standard expression meaning "according to my opinion" or "in my view."

Why do we say părerea mea instead of mea părere for "my opinion"?

In Romanian, possessive words like mea (my) almost always come after the noun. When they follow the noun, that noun must take a definite article at its end. So the feminine noun părere (opinion) becomes părerea (the opinion), and then we add mea to mean "my opinion."

Is there a reason this sentence uses e instead of este?

Both e and este are correct forms of the verb "is." However, e is much more common in everyday spoken Romanian. Since sharing an opinion about a movie is usually a casual conversation, e feels very natural here.

Could I use foarte instead of prea before lung?

You could, but it changes the meaning. Prea means "too" (excessively), implying the length is a negative thing. Foarte means "very," so foarte lung would just state that it is a very long movie, without necessarily complaining about it.
