Why is there a de between cincizeci and pagini?
In Romanian, when you use a number from 20 onwards to count something, you must put the preposition de between the number and the noun. Since 50 (cincizeci) is 20 or higher, we say cincizeci de pagini instead of just cincizeci pagini.
How is the number cincizeci formed?
It is a combination of cinci (five) and zeci (tens, which is the plural of zece). Most Romanian multiples of ten are formed this way, so it literally translates to five tens!
