Questions & Answers about O nosso professor é muito calmo e inteligente.
Why doesn't muito change its ending to match the adjectives?
Here, muito is an adverb of degree meaning "very". When it modifies adjectives (like calmo and inteligente), it is invariable, meaning it never changes its shape. It only changes endings (to muita, muitos, or muitas) when it acts as a quantity word meaning "much" or "many" before a noun.
Why is there an O before nosso?
In European Portuguese, possessive words like nosso (our) almost always need a definite article before them. Since professor is a masculine singular noun, we use the masculine singular article O.
If we were talking about a female teacher (a professora), how would the adjectives change?
calmo would change to its feminine form, calma. However, inteligente would stay exactly the same. Adjectives ending in -e are usually neutral and work for both masculine and feminine nouns.
