Questions & Answers about O embrulho lindíssimo tem um laço enorme.
What is the difference between saying muito lindo and lindíssimo?
They both mean "very beautiful", but lindíssimo is a single-word way to add strong emphasis. You make it by dropping the final vowel of the adjective lindo and adding the suffix -íssimo. Portuguese speakers use this suffix a lot to show intensity! Just remember it still has to agree with the noun, which is why it ends in -o for the masculine word embrulho.
Why doesn't the adjective enorme end in -o to match the masculine word laço?
Adjectives that end in the letter -e in their dictionary form, such as enorme, verde, or inteligente, are gender-neutral. They look exactly the same whether they are describing a masculine or a feminine noun. They only change when you need to make them plural (which would be enormes).
Is it a strict rule that adjectives like lindíssimo and enorme go after the noun?
It is the standard rule for descriptive adjectives, yes. Unlike English, Portuguese generally places words that describe physical traits, sizes, and subjective appearances directly after the noun. Placing them before the noun is sometimes done in literature for poetic flair, but in everyday speech, you will hear embrulho lindíssimo and laço enorme.
Does the word laço only mean a decorative bow?
