Questions & Answers about Albo kupisz te eleganckie perfumy, albo nie masz gustu.
Why do we use albo ... albo here instead of just lub?
Albo ... albo translates to "either ... or" and is used for mutually exclusive choices. You are presenting an ultimatum where only one option can be true. While lub also means "or", it is generally used for non-exclusive choices where both things could happen. Repeating albo makes the contrast much stronger.
Why is it te eleganckie perfumy (plural) when the English translation says "this elegant perfume" (singular)?
In Polish, perfumy (perfume) is a word that only exists in the plural form, just like "scissors" or "pants" in English. Because the noun is grammatically plural, the demonstrative pronoun (te) and the adjective (eleganckie) must also be in their non-masculine-personal plural forms to match it.
The English translation says "you buy", so why does the Polish sentence use the future tense kupisz?
English often uses the present tense in ultimatums or conditionals ("Either you buy this, or..."). In Polish, kupić is a perfective verb, meaning it focuses on the completed action. Grammatically, its present-tense conjugations act as the future tense. The speaker wants the completed result of you buying the perfume, so they use the perfective kupisz rather than the ongoing, imperfective kupujesz.
Why does the sentence use gustu instead of gust?
