Why is it wziąłem and not wzięłem, given the infinitive is wziąć?

Why doesn't the word klucz change its ending here since it is the direct object?

Why do we use z domu instead of od domu to mean "from the house"?
The preposition z combined with the genitive case domu specifically means "out of" or "from inside" a place. Since you are physically leaving the inside of the house, you use z. You would use od if you were walking away from the outside edge or general vicinity of the house.
