### Relational Adjectives

In English, you can often place two nouns next to each other to describe something, like a "bank transfer" or a "school backpack." In Polish, the first word must be converted into a **relational adjective**. 

These adjectives are formed by adding specific suffixes to a base noun. Because they are adjectives, they decline to match the gender, number, and case of the noun they describe.

### The Suffix "-owy"

The suffix **-owy** is the most common way to turn a noun into an adjective. It is frequently attached to modern concepts, everyday objects, and foreign loanwords.

For example, from *bank* we get *bankowy* (banking / bank-related), and from *poczta* (post office) we get *pocztowy* (postal).

This suffix is highly productive and applies to many categories, including seasons (*zima* -> *zimowy*), activities (*sport* -> *sportowy*), and concepts (*biznes* -> *biznesowy*).

### The Suffix "-ny"

Another essential suffix is **-ny**. It is frequently used with native Polish roots, institutions, and relationships.

For instance, from *szkoła* (school) we form *szkolny*, and from *rodzina* (family) we form *rodzinny*.

You will also see it used for communication and technology, such as turning *telefon* into *telefoniczny*.

### The Suffixes "-ski" and "-cki"

The suffix **-ski** is typically used to derive adjectives from professions, types of people, and geographical or natural terms. 

When a base noun ends in *-t*, the spelling and pronunciation shift, changing the suffix to **-cki**. For example, *student* becomes *studencki*.

When the noun ends in *-rz*, it merges with the suffix to become *-ski*. From *lekarz* (doctor), we get *lekarski* (medical / doctor's).

Finally, this suffix is heavily used for locations and elements of nature. The noun *miasto* (city) shifts slightly to become the adjective *miejski* (urban / city), and *morze* (sea) becomes *morski* (maritime / sea).
