Questions & Answers about La guardia controlla ogni porta di notte.

Since this lesson is about passive voice agents, how would this sentence change to fit the topic?

You would change it to the passive voice: Ogni porta è controllata di notte da parte della guardia. Because la guardia represents an official or institutional role, using da parte della instead of just dalla emphasizes that the action is executed as an official duty.

Could I say tutte le porte instead of ogni porta?

Yes, the meaning is virtually identical. Just remember that ogni (every) must be followed by a singular noun without an article (ogni porta), whereas tutto requires the definite article and a plural noun (tutte le porte).

Why is it di notte and not a notte or in notte?

To express a habitual action occurring at a certain time of day, Italian typically uses the preposition di. You will see this frequently with parts of the day, such as di mattina, di pomeriggio, di sera, and di notte.

Does la guardia change to masculine if the guard is a man?

No, la guardia is a grammatically feminine noun that always remains feminine, regardless of the actual gender of the person performing the job.
