Why aren't ottobre and novembre capitalized like in English?
In Italian, months of the year like ottobre and novembre, as well as days of the week and seasons, are not capitalized unless they are the very first word of a sentence.
How do we know mesi is plural?
The singular word for month is mese. In Italian, nouns that end in -e usually change to end in -i when they become plural. Since we are talking about two months, we use the plural mesi.
Why is the adjective tranquilli used here instead of tranquillo?
Adjectives must match the noun they describe. Because mesi is masculine and plural, the adjective changes its ending to the masculine plural -i, becoming tranquilli.
Why do we say nella mia città instead of in mia città?
Unlike English, Italian usually requires a word for 'the' before possessives like mia (my). Because città is feminine, we need la. The preposition in combines with la to make nella, creating nella mia città (literally 'in the my city').
