Alla is a "combined" preposition made by joining a (to) and the feminine singular article la (the). Because riunione (meeting) is feminine and singular, we combine a + la to make alla.
Since riunione ends in -e, how do we know it's feminine and needs la?
Nouns ending in -e can be masculine or feminine, which can be tricky. However, a very helpful rule is that Italian nouns ending in -ione (like riunione, stazione, and lezione) are almost always feminine!
