Why do we use autant de here instead of just autant?
Because we are comparing a noun (plastique). When comparing nouns (amounts of things), you must use autant de (as much / as many). If you were comparing verbs (actions), you would just use autant (for example: Tu travailles autant que moi - You work as much as me).
Since plastic is masculine, why isn't it autant du plastique?
