Questions & Answers about Kustannukset ovat liian suuret, ja urakkaa ei jatkettane.
How do we form the negative passive potential ei jatkettane from the verb jatkaa?
First, find the affirmative passive potential. For a Verb Type 1 like jatkaa (to continue), you use the passive stem and add -ttaneen, giving jatkettaneen (it will probably be continued). For the negative, use the negative verb ei and simply drop the final -en, resulting in ei jatkettane.
Why is the object urakkaa in the partitive case here instead of the nominative?
In an affirmative passive sentence, a total object would normally be in the nominative case. However, because this sentence is negative (ei jatkettane), the object rule changes: negative verbs almost always force their object into the partitive case, so urakka becomes urakkaa.
What does the word urakka mean outside of a business context?
While it translates to "contract" or "piecework" here, in everyday Finnish, an urakka often refers to any huge, demanding, or exhausting task. If you have a massive amount of yard work to do, you might call it quite an urakka.
