From Lesson 368:Formal also (niz)·Farsi

Questions & Answers about بازمانده‌ها اقلام را توزیع کردند و به خیریه نیز کمک کردند.

Why is نیز placed right before کمک کردند instead of earlier in the clause?
In formal Farsi, the additive adverb نیز (also / as well) typically immediately follows the specific word or phrase it adds to or emphasizes. Here, it follows به خیریه (to the charity) to stress that the charity was also a recipient of their actions. It functions very much like 'as well' does at the end of an English phrase.
The word for items here is اقلام. Isn't its singular form قلم (pen)?
Yes! While قلم commonly means 'pen', it is also used in business and administration to mean an 'item' (like a line item on a list, invoice, or budget). اقلام is its Arabic broken plural form. In news or formal contexts, it is the standard word for 'items' or 'goods'.
Why doesn't 'charity' take the direct object marker را like the items did in the first clause?
This is a great reminder about verb prepositions. The compound verb کمک کردن (to help) doesn't take a direct object with را. Instead, it requires the preposition به (to) for the person or thing receiving the help. Structurally, the sentence says they 'did help to the charity' (به خیریه کمک کردند).
How is the word بازمانده‌ها (survivors) constructed?
It is built from the verb بازماندن (to remain / to be left behind). By taking the past stem بازماند and adding the suffix ـه, you get the noun بازمانده (survivor or remainder). Finally, the standard plural marker ـها is attached.
