Formal Additions: نیز
When discussing serious or official topics—such as humanitarian aid—Farsi writers elevate their register with the formal additive adverb نیز ("also" or "too").
| also / as well | نیزniz |
Unlike the English word "also," which often floats near the verb, نیز typically sits immediately after the specific word or phrase it emphasizes. When emphasizing the subject, it comes right after the subject noun.
| The humanitarian aid also arrives at this camp. | کمکهای بشردوستانه نیز به این اردوگاه میرسد.komak-hâye bashardoostâne niz be in ordoogâh miresad. |
Emphasizing Objects and Needs
When emphasizing a specific object or requirement, نیز immediately follows that word.
| The displaced people of the crisis-stricken city also need medicine. | آوارههای شهر بحرانزده به دارو نیز نیاز دارند.âvârehâ-ye shahr-e bohrân-zade be dâru niz niâz dârand. |
If the object takes the specific object marker را, the adverb نیز is placed directly after را.
| The volunteers also distribute humanitarian items in the camp. | داوطلبان اقلام بشردوستانه را نیز در اردوگاه توزیع میکنند.dâvtalabân eqlâm-e bashardoostâne râ niz dar ordoogâh towzi' mikonand |
Expanding the Scope
In complex or compound sentences, placing نیز in the second clause shows that an additional action occurred alongside the first.
| The survivors distributed the items and also helped the charity. | بازماندهها اقلام را توزیع کردند و به خیریه نیز کمک کردند.bâzmânde-hâ aghlâm râ towzi' kardand va be kheyriyye niz komak kardand. |
| When we brought the humanitarian aid, the displaced people also arrived at the camp. | زمانی که ما کمکهای بشردوستانه را آوردیم، آوارهها نیز به اردوگاه رسیدند.zamâni ke mâ komak-hâ-ye bashardoostâneh râ âvardim, âvâre-hâ niz be ordoogâh residand. |
