From Lesson 344:Including (az jomle)·Farsi

Questions & Answers about آنها گل‌های معطری از جمله ارکیده را در این گلخانه پرورش می‌دهند.

How does از جمله (az jomle) literally translate, and how does it function here?
Literally, از means "from" and جمله means "group," "total," or "collection" (though it also means "sentence" in grammar). Together, از جمله means "from the group of" or "among which." It is used to give a specific example (ارکیده, orchid) of a broader category mentioned immediately before it (گل‌های معطری, fragrant flowers).
The word معطری (mo'attari) ends with the indefinite ی (i), but the phrase is followed by the definite object marker را (ra). How can it be both indefinite and definite?
This is a great structure to notice! When you combine the indefinite ی with the specific object marker را, it translates to "a certain [thing]" or "some particular [things]." Here, گل‌های معطری ... را implies they cultivate a particular subset of fragrant flowers, making the group specific enough in the speaker's mind to require را.
Why is the direct object marker را (ra) placed all the way after ارکیده (orchid) instead of right after the flowers?
The marker را must always attach to the very end of the entire noun phrase it marks. Because the clarifying phrase از جمله ارکیده (including the orchid) is part of the description of the flowers, it belongs to the direct object block. Therefore, را gets pushed all the way to the end.
Can I use از جمله to introduce an action or a full clause?
By itself, از جمله should only be followed by a noun or noun phrase (like ارکیده). If you want to say "including the fact that..." or introduce a full verb clause, you need to add اینکه (in-ke) to make it از جمله اینکه.
