Learn Farsi: اجازه‌ی تو را می‌خواهم.

In Farsi, when a noun is followed by its possessor, they are connected by an "e" sound called the ezafe. Because اجازه (ejâze) ends in a silent "e" sound (written with the letter ه), we must add a ی to bridge the gap, making the sound -ye. So, اجازه‌ی تو (ejâze-ye to) means "your permission".

Why do we need the word "râ" (را) here?

The word را (râ) is used to mark a specific direct object. The speaker isn't just saying "I want permission" in general; they want a very specific thing: "your permission" (اجازه‌ی تو). Therefore, را is required right after it to show it's the exact target of the verb می‌خواهم (I want).

Our current lesson teaches "ejâze" with the subjunctive. Why isn't there a subjunctive verb here?

This sentence just uses اجازه as a regular noun meaning "permission." You only need the subjunctive when using expressions like اجازه دارم که (I am allowed to...) or اجازه می‌دهی که (you allow me to...), where a second action follows (like "to go" or "to speak"). Here, there is no second action—permission is simply the object you want (می‌خواهم).

Could I use a possessive ending instead of "to" (تو) to say "your permission"?

Yes! Instead of using the independent pronoun تو with the ezafe, you could use the attached possessive suffix ـَت (-at). The phrase would become اجازه‌ات (ejâze-at), and the full sentence would be (ejâze-at râ mi-khâham). Both mean the exact same thing.
