Questions & Answers about بعضی از منتقدان میخواهند که شما اولین مقدمه را نخوانید.
Why is "the first preface" written as اولین مقدمه without an Ezafe, instead of مقدمه اول?
In Farsi, ordinal numbers can go before or after the noun. When placed before the noun, they take a suffix ending in ـین (-in) and do not use the Ezafe connector. This pre-nominal form, like اولین مقدمه (avvalin moqaddame), is often used to add emphasis. If you put the number after the noun, you drop the ـین and connect them with an Ezafe: مقدمه اول (moqaddame-ye avval). Note that while most numbers use ـمین (-omin) for the before-noun form (like دومین for "second"), "first" just uses ـین to become اولین.
Why is the second verb نخوانید (nakhānid) instead of a regular present tense verb?
The sentence uses the structure میخواهند که (they want that...). In Farsi, verbs following "want" or expressing a wish must be in the subjunctive mood. Normally, the subjunctive prefix is بـ (be-), but because this is a negative verb ("not read"), the negative prefix نـ (na-) replaces it entirely.
Why is the specific object marker را (rā) placed after مقدمه and not right after the number اولین?
The object marker را always follows the entire noun phrase that makes up the specific direct object. Since اولین مقدمه (the first preface) operates together as a single phrase acting as the object of the verb "read", را must go at the very end of it.
