Questions & Answers about سرنشین دارد تعادل را از دست میدهد؛ احتمال دارد بیفتد.
Why do we use بیفتد instead of میافتد here?
The phrase احتمال دارد (there is a probability) is an impersonal expression of probability. In Farsi, when you express probability, possibility, or necessity, the verb that follows must be in the Present Subjunctive. Therefore, the indicative میافتد (he falls) changes to the subjunctive بیفتد (that he may fall).
Where does the extra ی (y) sound come from in بیفتد?
The infinitive is افتادن (to fall), and its present stem is افت (oft). When building the subjunctive, we add the prefix بـ (be-/bi-). Because افت starts with a vowel sound, Farsi inserts the consonant ی (y) to bridge the gap and make pronunciation smoother, resulting in بیفتد (bi-y-oftad).
How is the present continuous tense formed with a long compound verb like از دست دادن?
To say someone is currently doing something right now, we use the correct form of داشتن (to have) as an auxiliary verb. Here, دارد works with the main verb میدهد. Notice how دارد is placed early in the sentence, separated from میدهد by تعادل را از دست. This bracket structure is the standard way to form the present continuous with compound verbs in Farsi.
Why does تعادل (balance) need the direct object marker را?
Even though balance is an abstract concept, the passenger is losing his specific balance at this moment. In Farsi, when an abstract noun refers to a specific, definite instance, it takes را. Without it, it would sound like he is losing the general concept of balance.
