Questions & Answers about من میخواهم اولویتهایم را مشخص کنم تا کارهایم را بهتر پیش ببرم.
Why are both مشخص کنم and پیش ببرم in the present subjunctive form here?
In Farsi, the present subjunctive is used after verbs of wanting and necessity, as well as after many conjunctions. The verb مشخص کنم is in the subjunctive because it follows میخواهم (I want). The verb پیش ببرم is in the subjunctive because it follows تا (so that). Just like the conjunction you are learning in this lesson (به جای اینکه), تا connects two clauses and forces the verb in the second clause into the subjunctive.
How is the word اولویتهایم built?
It means "my priorities" and breaks down into three parts: اولویت (priority), the plural marker ها, and the first-person possessive ending م (my). Because ها ends in a vowel, an extra ی is added before the م to make it easier to pronounce, resulting in اولویتهایم.
Why doesn't the subjunctive verb مشخص کنم have the usual ب prefix?
The verb مشخص کردن is a compound verb made of the adjective مشخص (specified) and the helper verb کردن (to do/make). When forming the subjunctive of compound verbs that use کردن, the ب prefix is almost always dropped in modern Farsi. So it becomes مشخص کنم instead of مشخص بکنم.
We see the direct object marker را used twice in this sentence. Why is it needed in both places?
The word را marks a specific, definite direct object. In the first half of the sentence, "my priorities" (اولویتهایم) is the specific thing being specified. In the second half, "my tasks" (کارهایم) is the specific thing being advanced. Because possessive endings like "my" automatically make a noun definite, را is required in both clauses.
What is the infinitive of پیش ببرم, and how does it mean "advance"?
The infinitive is پیش بردن (literally "to carry before" or "to carry forward"). It is a compound verb where پیش means "forward" or "ahead" and بردن means "to take" or "to carry". Together, they mean "to advance" or "to push forward". Its subjunctive form adds the ب prefix to the verb part, making it پیش ببرم.
