Why does the reported question use the indicative ast instead of the subjunctive?
When reporting a question with porsidan (to ask) and a Wh-word like cheghadr (how much) or kojā (where), the verb in the reported clause stays in the indicative mood, just like a direct question. This is why we use ast (is) and not the subjunctive bāshad.
Why doesn't the word order change in the reported question like it does in English?
In Farsi, reported questions keep the exact same word order as direct questions. If you quote the buyer directly, they asked: elevator where is? (āsānsor kojā ast?). When reporting it, you simply attach this to porsid ke without shifting the words around.
