Why do we use ke here when the English translation just says "He asked which"?
In Farsi reported questions, we usually use the conjunction ke (that) right after the reporting verb, like porsid (asked), to introduce the question. You can think of it as saying "He asked that: which room has a balcony." English doesn't do this, but it is the standard structure in Farsi.
Why is the final verb dārad in the present tense when the main verb porsid is in the past tense?
In English, we usually shift the tense back in reported speech and say "He asked which room had a balcony." Farsi, however, keeps the exact tense of the original spoken question. Since the person originally asked "Which room has a balcony?", the reported sentence keeps the present indicative verb dārad (has).
Can we leave out the word ke in this sentence?
