Why do we need را in this sentence?
را is the definite direct object marker. Because the action of keeping is happening to a specific thing — این عکس (this photo) rather than just any photo — we must add را right after it to show it is the direct target of the verb.
If این means "this" and عکس means "photo", why doesn't را go between them?
را always goes at the very end of the entire noun phrase it marks. Since این عکس (this photo) works together as a single block of meaning, را has to come after the whole phrase, not just after the word for "this".
Why is the verb in two parts (نگه میداریم)?
This is a compound verb, which is very common in Farsi. It pairs a non-verb word, نگه (guard/keep), with a helper verb, داشتن (to have). Only the helper verb changes for the present tense, taking the prefix می and the "we" ending -یم to become میداریم.
Where is the word for "we" (ما) in the Farsi sentence?
In Farsi, subject pronouns are often dropped because the verb ending already tells you who is doing the action. The -یم ending on میداریم means "we", so adding ما at the beginning of the sentence is completely optional.
