Questions & Answers about من از تو میخواهم که به پنجهی سگ نگاه کنی.
Why does the sentence use az to (from you) instead of just saying 'I want you'?
In English, we say 'I want you to do something.' But in Farsi, you want from someone that they do something. This is the standard structure for indirect commands and requests: khâstan (to want) + az (from) + the person.
Why is the second verb negâh koni instead of negâh mikoni?
The verb is in the present subjunctive form because it follows ke (that) to express a desire or request. With compound verbs like negâh kardan (to look), we drop the mi- prefix. Usually we add a be- prefix to make it subjunctive, but with the verb kardan, the be- is almost always dropped, leaving just koni.
Why is there a -ye sound in the middle of panjeh-ye sag?
This is the ezâfe, the grammatical connector used to show possession (the paw of the dog). We normally just add an -e sound, but because panjeh (paw) ends in a silent 'h' (a vowel sound), we must add -ye to link the words smoothly.
Why do we need the word be (to) before the dog's paw?
In English, you look 'at' something. In Farsi, the compound verb negâh kardan (to look) requires the preposition be (to). You are literally saying that you look 'to' the dog's paw.
