How does شهری دیگر translate to another city, and what is the ی at the end of شهر?
The suffix ی on شهر (city) is the indefinite marker, meaning a or an. So شهری means a city. When we follow it with the adjective دیگر (other), the combination literally means a city that is other, which gives us another city.
Is there an ezafe (connecting sound) between شهری and دیگر?
No, and this is a very important rule! When a noun takes the indefinite ی ending, you do not use the ezafe connector before its adjective. You just say shahri digar, completely skipping the usual connecting sound.
Why do we need the word از (from) here when the English translation does not use it?
