Expressing "Another" with دیگر
When you are making travel plans, you might need to ask for "another" route or suggest visiting "another" city. In Farsi, you express "another" or "a different" by using the word دیگر.
To apply it, simply attach the indefinite suffix ی to your noun, and follow it immediately with دیگر.
| You must go to another city to enjoy the local culture. | شما باید برای لذت بردن از فرهنگ محلی به شهری دیگر بروید.shomâ bâyad barâye lezzat bordan az farhang-e mahalli be shahri digar beravid. |
Notice the structure: شهر (city) + ی (indefinite marker) + دیگر (other/another).
Because the indefinite ی already acts as a bridge between the noun and the adjective that follows it, you do not use the ezafe vowel here.
| This local tour goes to another place. | این تور محلی به مکانی دیگر میرود.in tur mahalli be makâni digar miravad. |
| We can choose another route for the local tour. | ما میتوانیم مسیری دیگر برای تور محلی انتخاب کنیم.mâ mitavânim masiri digar barâye tur mahalli entekhâb konim. |
If the noun ends in a long vowel (like the "a" sound at the end of راهنما), the indefinite marker is written with an extra letter to make pronunciation smooth (یی):
| Another guide explains the local culture. | راهنمایی دیگر فرهنگ محلی را توضیح میدهد.râhnamâyi digar farhang mahalli râ towzih midahad. |
