Questions & Answers about Wij gaan na in hoeverre de nieuwe simkaart gratis is.
How does in hoeverre affect the word order here?
The phrase in hoeverre introduces an indirect question, which acts as a subordinate clause. In Dutch, subordinate clauses use verb-final word order, which is why the verb is gets pushed to the very end of the sentence.
What is the verb in the first part of the sentence?
The verb is nagaan, a separable verb meaning to check, verify, or investigate. Because it is used in the main clause, the verb splits, putting the conjugated part (gaan) in the normal second position and the prefix (na) at the end of that clause.
Why doesn't the separable prefix na go at the very end of the whole sentence?
The prefix na goes to the end of its own clause, not necessarily the end of the entire sentence. The indirect question in hoeverre de nieuwe simkaart gratis is is a separate subordinate clause, so the prefix na must be placed right before it.
What is the literal translation of in hoeverre?
