Questions & Answers about Ik krijg het rijbewijs thuisgestuurd.
Why use krijg here instead of word to make a passive sentence?
This is the benefactive passive. You use krijgen plus a past participle when the subject (Ik) is the person receiving the benefit of the action, rather than the thing being acted upon. If you used the standard passive with worden, the license would have to be the subject: Het rijbewijs wordt thuisgestuurd.
Why is the word ge tucked into the middle of thuisgestuurd?
The infinitive is thuissturen, which is a separable verb made of thuis (home) and sturen (to send). When forming the past participle of a separable verb, the ge- prefix is always placed exactly between the separable prefix and the main verb stem.
Why does the past participle thuisgestuurd go all the way at the end?
Just like in a standard perfect tense sentence with hebben or zijn, the conjugated verb (krijg) takes the second position in the main clause, and the past participle (thuisgestuurd) is pushed to the very end of the sentence.
Why does the Dutch sentence say het rijbewijs rather than mijn rijbewijs?
