Questions & Answers about Ik schrijf mijn eigen financiële zakenplan.
Why is it mijn eigen instead of mijn eigene?
Eigen is an exception to the normal adjective spelling rules. Even when an adjective would normally get an -e added to the end, eigen always stays exactly the same. You will never write eigene.
Why does the word financiële have those two dots on the letter e?
Those two dots are called a trema. They tell you to start a new syllable. In Dutch, ie is normally a single vowel sound (like the 'ee' in the English word 'see'). The trema breaks it up so you pronounce the final -e as its own separate sound.
Zakenplan is a het word. Why does financiële get an -e ending here?
You might remember that adjectives before het words drop the -e ending, but that only happens after een, geen, or when there is no article at all (for example: een financieel plan). Because this sentence uses the possessive pronoun mijn, the adjective follows the regular rule and takes the -e ending.
