Questions & Answers about De sfeer in de woonkamer is niet knus genoeg.
Why does genoeg come after knus?
In Dutch, when genoeg modifies an adjective, it always comes directly after that adjective. This works exactly like English: we say knus genoeg just like we say 'cozy enough'.
I usually see gezellig for 'cozy'. How is knus different?
Gezellig is a broader word that often implies a fun social atmosphere, good company, or a pleasant vibe. Knus specifically refers to physical coziness, snugness, or intimacy. A warm, softly lit living room is definitely knus.
Why is niet placed right before knus genoeg?
When you negate an adjective or an adjective phrase, niet goes directly in front of it. Here, the word niet negates the entire concept of being knus genoeg, so it sits right before knus.
Can I put the verb is right after sfeer, like De sfeer is in de woonkamer...?
Yes, you can, but it slightly changes the flow. In this sentence, De sfeer in de woonkamer (the atmosphere in the living room) is grouped together as one long subject in the first position. The verb is correctly takes the second grammatical position right after it.
