Questions & Answers about Daarom ben ik de informatie aan het analyseren.
Why is the object de informatie placed before aan het analyseren?
This shows the classic Dutch "verb bracket". The conjugated verb (ben) and the continuous phrase (aan het analyseren) act like two ends of a bracket. The direct object (de informatie) sits inside this bracket. This is why you cannot say "Ik ben aan het analyseren de informatie" like you would in English.
Does aan het always stay right next to the infinitive (analyseren)?
Yes! While objects and adverbs are placed in the middle of the sentence after the conjugated verb (ben), the aan het + infinitive block always stays glued together at the very end of the clause.
Why do we use ben ik instead of ik ben in this sentence?
Because the sentence starts with the adverb Daarom (That is why / Therefore). Whenever a Dutch main clause starts with something other than the subject, the subject and the conjugated verb swap places. This rule is called inversion.
Could I put de informatie immediately after Daarom to emphasize it?
No, because the conjugated verb (ben) must strictly remain in the second position of a main clause. Since Daarom takes up the first position, the verb must come next, followed by the subject (ik).
