Questions & Answers about Deze attractie is te langzaam om leuk te zijn.
How does the te ... om ... te structure work here?
It works just like "too ... to" in English! You put te before the first adjective (te langzaam = too slow) to show the excess, and use om ... te with the infinitive verb (om leuk te zijn = to be fun) to show the consequence.
Why is leuk placed before te zijn instead of after it?
In Dutch, verbs in an om ... te clause get pushed to the very end of the phrase. Because leuk (fun) is the adjective describing the attraction, it must come before the verb zijn (to be). This is the opposite of the English "to be fun".
Why do we use Deze instead of Dit for "This"?
Attractie is a de-word (de attractie). When pointing out a de-word, you must use deze (this). You only use dit for het-words (like dit boek).
Could I use traag instead of langzaam here?
Yes! Traag and langzaam both mean "slow" and are completely interchangeable in this context. Saying te traag would mean exactly the same thing.
