Questions & Answers about Wat voor een mand zullen we kopen?
Why use Wat voor een here instead of Welke?
Welke translates to which and is used when you are picking from a specific, limited set of options (like choosing between three specific baskets sitting in front of you). Wat voor een translates to what kind of and asks about the general category, size, or style of basket you want to look for.
Do I always need the word een in wat voor een?
You use een here because mand (basket) is a singular, countable noun. If you were asking about a plural noun (like manden for baskets) or an uncountable concept (like hout for wood), you would drop it and just ask Wat voor.
Is Wat voor een mand considered a single question block?
Yes. Grammatically, the entire phrase Wat voor een mand acts as one single block occupying the first position in the sentence. That is why the active verb (zullen) comes right after the word mand rather than earlier.
Why is kopen placed at the very end of the sentence?
This sentence uses the helping verb zullen (shall). In Dutch, when you have a helping or modal verb, it takes the active spot near the beginning of the sentence and pushes the main action verb (kopen) all the way to the end in its full dictionary form.
