Draag je deze trui vandaag?

Questions & Answers about Draag je deze trui vandaag?

Why do we use deze instead of dit for 'this sweater'?
Because trui is a de-word (de trui). In Dutch, we use deze (this) for all singular de-words and for all plurals. We only use dit for singular het-words (like dit shirt).
Since the subject is je (you), why doesn't the verb have a -t at the end (draagt)?
Normally, verbs with je or jij do get a -t at the end. However, there is a special rule for questions: when je or jij comes directly after the verb, we drop the -t. That is why it is draag je instead of draagt je.
Can I use jij instead of je here?
Yes, you can say Draag jij deze trui vandaag?. You would use jij if you want to put special emphasis on 'you' (for example: Are you wearing this, or is someone else?). Without emphasis, the unstressed je is the standard choice.
Why does vandaag (today) go at the very end of the sentence?
In a simple Dutch yes/no question, the sentence starts with the verb (Draag) and the subject (je). Because deze trui is a specific, known object, the time word (vandaag) comes after it.
