Het hotel heeft veel planten.

From Lesson 17:Plural nouns (-en)·Dutch

Questions & Answers about Het hotel heeft veel planten.

How is the plural of plant formed here?
Most standard Dutch nouns, like plant, become plural by simply adding -en to the end. So, one plant becomes two planten.
Does veel mean "many" or "much"?
It means both! Unlike English, which uses "many" for things you can count (many plants) and "much" for things you cannot (much water), Dutch uses veel for all of them. Here, veel planten means "many plants".
Why is it Het hotel and not De hotel?
Nouns in Dutch are either "common" words that use de or "neuter" words that use het. Hotel is a neuter word, so it must be het hotel. It is always best to memorize a new noun together with its "de" or "het" article!
I recognize heeft means "has", but what is the full verb?
The infinitive (dictionary form) is hebben (to have). It is an irregular verb, which is why the form for "it has" (the hotel has) changes to heeft instead of following the normal spelling rules.
