Questions & Answers about Patronun sekreterle gizlice görüştüğü belgelendi.
Why does görüştüğü have no case marker at the end, unlike many other -dIk clauses?
Because the entire clause (Patronun... görüştüğü) acts as the subject of the main verb belgelendi (was documented). What was documented? The meeting. Since subjects in Turkish are in the nominative (zero) case, the factive clause only needs its possessive ending (-ü) and takes no additional case markers like the accusative (-nü) or dative (-ne).
Why is the boss written as patronun (genitive) instead of just patron?
When you turn a sentence into a factive clause using -dIk or -(y)AcAk, the subject of that inner clause takes the genitive case (-In), while the verb takes a possessive suffix. You are literally saying "the boss's meeting".
How is the verb belgelendi (was documented) built from its root?
It starts with the noun belge (document). The suffix -le turns it into the verb belgelemek (to document). Then, the passive suffix -n is added to make belgelenmek (to be documented), and it finishes with the past tense -di.
Why do we use sekreterle instead of the dative case (sekretere) for the verb görüşmek?
