Questions & Answers about Antivirüs kullansan bile bazen şifren çalınır.
How does kullansan bile differ from kullanırsan?
Adding bile (even) after the conditional suffix -sa or -se creates the meaning of 'even if'. While kullanırsan simply means 'if you use', kullansan bile emphasizes that the outcome happens regardless of the condition. Notice it uses the pure conditional kullansan rather than the aorist conditional kullanırsan.
Could I use the lesson's target phrase aksi takdirde (otherwise) to express a similar idea here?
Not with this exact meaning, as they express opposite logic. Aksi takdirde introduces a consequence of NOT doing something (e.g., 'Use an antivirus, aksi takdirde your password gets stolen'). The phrase kullansan bile shows that the consequence might happen despite your preventative action.
Why is the verb çalınır in the aorist (simple present) tense rather than the present continuous çalınıyor?
The aorist tense (the -ır suffix here) is used to express general truths, possibilities, or habits. Combined with bazen (sometimes), it perfectly captures that getting your password stolen is a general risk over time, not an ongoing action happening right at this moment.
I see the passive suffix -ın in çalınır. Would it make sense to use the active voice and say şifreni çalarlar (they steal your password) instead?
