Breakdown of Oyuncular koreografiyi bilmiyor değil, ama çok yorgun görünüyorlar.

Questions & Answers about Oyuncular koreografiyi bilmiyor değil, ama çok yorgun görünüyorlar.

How does the double negative bilmiyor değil change the meaning compared to just saying biliyorlar?

Using the negative verb bilmiyor with the negative word değil creates a nuanced affirmation. While biliyorlar simply means "they know", bilmiyor değil translates to "it is not that they don't know." This structure is used defensively or to set up a contrast, perfectly preparing the listener for the "but" (ama) that follows.

Where do the tense and person suffixes go in this [negative verb] + değil structure?

The tense suffix (here, the present continuous -iyor) attaches to the main verb. The person suffix can attach to değil, but because the subject Oyuncular is an explicitly stated plural noun, the third-person plural suffix is optional. It is perfectly natural to leave değil bare here, especially since the plural is clearly marked at the end of the sentence with görünüyorlar.

How is görünüyorlar (they look) related to the basic verb görmek (to see)?

The verb görünmek is formed by adding the reflexive or passive suffix -in to görmek (to see). This changes the meaning from "to see" to "to be seen" or, more naturally in English, "to look" or "to appear." Therefore, çok yorgun görünüyorlar means "they look very tired."
