Questions & Answers about Bu durumu öngördüğümüze göre sonuç kaçınılmaz.
How does öngördüğümüze göre translate to "since we foresaw"?
This uses the deduction structure you are currently learning: Verb + -dık + possessive + dative + göre. Let's break it down: öngör (foresee) + -düğ (the softened -dük suffix that creates a noun clause) + -ümüz (our) + -e (dative case required by göre). Literally, it means "according to our foreseeing." In English, we naturally translate this deductive structure as "since," "seeing as," or "given that."
What is the difference between using öngördüğümüze göre and öngördüğümüz için here?
While both can translate to "since" or "because," they have different nuances. İçin simply states a direct cause-and-effect relationship. The -dığına göre structure is specifically used for logical deductions or inferences. You are saying, "Given the established fact that we foresaw this, we can logically conclude that the result is inevitable."
Could I just say "Bu durum öngördüğümüze göre" without the -u on durum?
No, you need the accusative suffix -u here to make it durumu. This is because "this situation" is the direct object of the verb öngörmek (to foresee). Whenever a direct object is specified with a demonstrative adjective like bu (this), it is specific and must take the accusative case.
