Questions & Answers about Şeffaf reformlar sayesinde kalkınma hızlanıyor.
Why use sayesinde here instead of yüzünden?
Sayesinde means 'thanks to' and is used when the cause leads to a positive or desired outcome. If the reforms had caused something negative to happen, you would use yüzünden (because of / due to) instead.
Why is it reformlar sayesinde and not reformların sayesinde?
When you use a general or indefinite noun with sayesinde, it acts like a basic noun compound and takes the bare nominative form. If you were talking about specific, previously mentioned reforms, you would use the genitive case, like o reformların sayesinde (thanks to those reforms). Note that personal pronouns always require the genitive form, as in senin sayende (thanks to you).
How is the verb hızlanıyor built?
It is built from the noun hız (speed). The suffix -lan / -len attaches to nouns and adjectives to create verbs that mean 'to acquire' or 'to become' that state. Therefore, hızlanmak means 'to gain speed' or 'to accelerate'.
How could we use the current lesson's grammar (gerek ... gerekse ...) with this sentence to list multiple causes?
You can use these correlatives right before the postposition to emphasize that multiple factors are responsible. For example: Gerek şeffaf reformlar gerekse yeni yatırımlar sayesinde kalkınma hızlanıyor. This means 'Thanks to both transparent reforms and new investments, development is accelerating.'
