Questions & Answers about Buna karşılık, projeyi eksiksiz bitirmek üzere anlaştık.
Wait, doesn't üzere usually mean 'about to'? How does it mean 'on the condition of' here?
You probably learned -mAk üzere earlier as 'about to' (like çıkmak üzereyim - I am about to leave). However, it is also used to form proviso clauses, meaning 'on the condition that' or 'with the understanding that.' When paired with verbs like anlaşmak (to agree) or söz vermek (to promise), it sets a condition for the agreement.
What is the literal breakdown of the word eksiksiz?
It is built from eksik, which means 'missing', 'lacking', or 'deficient', plus the suffix -siz, which means 'without.' Literally, it means 'without anything missing,' which is why it translates to 'completely' or 'flawlessly' here.
Why does the sentence use Buna karşılık instead of just saying Bunun için?
While bunun için means 'for this' or 'because of this,' buna karşılık specifically means 'in return for this' or 'in response to this.' The word karşılık requires the dative case on the preceding word, which is why bu changes to buna.
Why is it projeyi rather than just proje?
The word projeyi has the accusative case ending -yi because it is the specific direct object of the verb bitirmek (to finish). We are talking about finishing a specific project, so it requires the definite accusative marker.
