Questions & Answers about İster flüt gibi küçük bir enstrüman seç ister piyano, hızlı öğrenirsin.
How does ister ... ister ... translate to 'whether ... or ...' here?
The word ister comes from the aorist form of istemek (to want). When repeated as ister ... ister ..., it functions as a correlative conjunction meaning 'whether [this] or [that]'. It shows that the main action (öğrenirsin) will happen regardless of which option is chosen.
Why is the verb seç placed after the first option, and why is it in the imperative (command) form?
Structures with ister ... ister ... often use the imperative form for the verb (like seç, meaning 'choose!'). The sentence literally flows like 'If you want, choose a small instrument, if you want, a piano.' You don't need to repeat the verb seç after piyano because it is already understood from the first clause.
Why does the sentence end with the aorist tense in öğrenirsin instead of the future tense (öğreneceksin)?
The aorist tense (the -ir- in öğrenirsin) is frequently used for general truths, natural consequences, or strong assumptions. Rather than pointing to a specific scheduled event in the future, the speaker is saying 'as a rule, you will learn fast', making the aorist the most natural choice.
Why is the word order küçük bir enstrüman instead of bir küçük enstrüman?
