Questions & Answers about Büyükelçi, diplomatın bizimle konuşmak yerine düşmanla uzlaşmasına izin verdi.
Why do we say diplomatın and uzlaşmasına here?
This is the standard Turkish structure for indirect actions. To say that someone allowed "the diplomat to reach a consensus", Turkish phrasing translates more literally to "allowed the diplomat's reaching a consensus". The doer of the action (diplomat) gets the genitive suffix -ın (the diplomat's), and the short verbal noun uzlaşma gets the possessive suffix -sı (his/her reaching).
Why is there an -a at the very end of uzlaşmasına?
The verb izin vermek (to allow / give permission) always requires the action being permitted to take the dative (direction) case, because you are giving permission to that action. After we build uzlaşma-sı (his reaching a consensus), we add the buffer letter -n- and the dative suffix -a.
Why is konuşmak in the full infinitive form (-mak) instead of a short verbal noun like uzlaşma?
It is paired with the word yerine (instead of). When you want to say "instead of doing [action]", you just use the full dictionary infinitive (-mak / -mek) followed directly by yerine. Therefore, "instead of speaking" is simply konuşmak yerine.
Why does bizimle end in -le but düşmanla ends in ? Are these the same suffix?
