Learn Turkish: Daha verimli olmak için mesaimizi azaltalım mı? - Shall we decrease our working hours to be more productive?

It goes through a few steps! First, we add -al to the adjective az to make the verb azalmak (to decrease / to become less). Then, we add the causative suffix -t to make azaltmak (to make something less / to decrease something). Finally, we add the "let's" suffix for "we" (-alım) to get azaltalım (let's decrease / shall we decrease).

What suffixes are attached to mesai in the word mesaimizi?

Mesai means "working hours" or "shift". First, we add the possessive suffix -miz to make mesaimiz (our working hours). Then, because "our working hours" is the specific direct object receiving the action of being decreased, we add the accusative case vowel -i, giving us mesaimizi.

Why is the dictionary form olmak used right before için here?

When you pair a full infinitive verb (like olmak, meaning "to be") with the word için, it creates the meaning "in order to [verb]". So, daha verimli olmak için translates perfectly to "in order to be more productive".

How would we change azaltalım mı to say "If we decreased..." using the hypothetical conditional (-se / -sa) from this lesson?
