Questions & Answers about İlk matbaa hangi yüzyılda kullanıldı?
How do we get kullanıldı from the verb kullanmak (to use)?
The root is kullan- (use). To make it passive, we add the passive suffix -ıl based on vowel harmony, creating kullanıl- (be used). Finally, we add the past tense suffix -dı for the third-person singular, giving us kullanıldı (was used).
Why does kullanmak take the -ıl suffix for the passive instead of -ın?
For most verb roots ending in a consonant, the passive suffix is -ıl (or -il, -ul, -ül). The suffix -ın is mostly reserved for verb roots that end in -l (like almak becoming alınmak) or a vowel. Since kullan- ends in -n, it gets the standard -ıl ending.
Why isn't there a question particle like mı at the end of this sentence?
In Turkish, if a sentence already contains a specific question word—like hangi (which) in this case—you do not use the yes/no question particle mı. The question word itself does all the work.
Is yüzyıl (century) a compound noun? Why isn't there an extra buffer -n- before the locative suffix -da?
