Questions & Answers about Tasarımcı, yeni moda dergisini gülerek okuyor.
How does the suffix in gülerek change the meaning of the verb?
The word gülerek is made of the verb root gül- (to laugh) and the suffix -erek. This suffix turns a verb into an adverb that describes how an action is done. Here, it tells us that the designer is reading "laughing" or "while laughing".
Why is it dergisini instead of just dergiyi?
Dergisini has a few suffixes stacked together. First, "fashion magazine" is a noun compound: moda dergi-si (fashion + magazine + 3rd person possessive suffix). Because the designer is reading the specific magazine, we must add the accusative case suffix -i. The -n- in the middle is a buffer letter to keep the vowels apart, making dergi-si-n-i.
How does the word tasarımcı translate to 'designer'?
The base word is tasarım (design). The suffix -cı is used to turn a noun into a profession or describe someone who regularly deals with that thing. It works just like adding "-er" to "design" in English.
Why is there a comma immediately after Tasarımcı?
In Turkish, a comma is frequently placed right after the subject of a sentence. This is especially common when the subject is separated from the verb by several other words, as it helps clarify exactly who is performing the action.
