Questions & Answers about Bir hap içmelisin ve kalın bir battaniye ile uyumalısın.
How does the "should" suffix work in içmelisin and uyumalısın?
We use the obligation suffix -malı or -meli attached to the verb root, followed by the personal suffix. For 'you should sleep', it is uyu- (sleep) + -malı (should) + -sın (you) = uyumalısın. For 'you should take' (literally 'drink'), vowel harmony changes it to -meli: iç- + -meli + -sin = içmelisin.
Why does the sentence use içmelisin (you should drink) for a pill instead of a word for "take"?
In Turkish, the verb içmek (to drink) is used for consuming all oral medicine, including solid pills and capsules. You generally do not use almak (to take) for this action unless you mean buying or physically picking up the medicine from a pharmacy.
Why is the word order kalın bir battaniye instead of bir kalın battaniye?
Could ile (with) be attached directly to battaniye in this sentence?
