The root of the verb is bağlan-. Because it has more than one syllable (bağ-lan) and ends in a consonant, it takes the -Ir suffix for the aorist tense instead of -Ar. Following 4-way vowel harmony for the 'a' in the root, the suffix becomes -ır.
Why is the dative suffix used in ağa?
