How does the aorist suffix work in bağlanır?
The dictionary verb is bağlanmak (to connect). The verb stem bağlan has two syllables and ends in a consonant. For multi-syllable consonant stems, the aorist suffix uses four-way vowel harmony (-ır, -ir, -ur, or -ür). Since the last vowel in bağlan is a, we add -ır to get bağlanır (it connects / it usually connects).
I learned that bağlamak means to tie or to connect. Why is there an -n- in bağlanır?
The -n suffix makes the verb reflexive or passive. While bağlamak means to connect something else (like you plugging a cable into a wall), bağlanmak means to connect oneself. Since the device is connecting itself to the network, it uses this -n form.
