İnançlar ve değerler farklı mı?

Questions & Answers about İnançlar ve değerler farklı mı?

Why is there no word for "are" in this sentence?
In Turkish, the "to be" verb (am/is/are) is often added as a personal suffix or left out entirely. For third-person subjects like "beliefs and values," no suffix is needed. The adjective farklı acts as the predicate "are different," and simply turns it into a yes/no question.
The subjects are plural (inançlar, değerler). Why don't we use farklılar mı?
Because "beliefs" and "values" are inanimate (non-human) concepts. In Turkish, when a plural subject is non-human, the verb or predicate usually remains in the singular form. If you were talking about a group of people being different, you could use the plural and say farklılar mı?
How is the word farklı formed?
It comes from the noun fark, which means "difference." The suffix -lı means "with" or "having." So, farklı literally means "having a difference," which is how Turkish expresses the adjective "different."
